Under clear blue skies and surrounded by the lush green background of the fairways, the Heroes Golf Course at the West Los Angeles VA, held its First Annual Benefit for Veterans last week. The golf-themed event raised funds to expand the golf course and create more jobs and job training services for veterans.
The event generated support from many Palisades residents including Dayna and Steven Bochco (Event Hosts), Jason Silletti (Event Sponsor Goldman Sachs) and Palisades Honorary Mayor Jake Steinfeld – who spiced up the evening and encouraged generous bidding when he took the mic to award prizes for the opportunity drawings and the golf competitions. Two non-golfing Palisadians, Michael King (Closest-to-the-Pin) and Vicky Rosen (Women’s Putting) surprised the field with wins.
Los Angeles Times sportswriter Bill Dwyre presented a donation from a veterans rehabilitation facility that heard about the Heroes Golf Course and wanted to support the innovative rehabilitation programs the course provides. About 150 people attended the event, including California Attorney General Kamala Harris, LA County Supervisor candidate Sheila Kuhel and State Senator Ted Lieu. Brentwood residents Al and Linda Michaels, Dana and Matt Walden and Nancy Stephens and Rick Rosenthal were also at the benefit.
The event raised over $100,000 and donations are still being accepted. To make a donation to support the Heroes Golf Course and our community’s veterans contact Palisades resident and event organizer Bruce Rosen at (310) 717-7589 and brucetrosen@gmail.com.
