Two Palisadian-owned wineries have been named on this year’s prestigious list of the top 100 wineries in the world by Wine and Spirits magazine.
The Skinner Winery, owned by the Skinner family of The Huntington—whose ancestor James Skinner was a Scottish miner who joined the Californian gold rush—is located in El Dorado County.
They specialize in Rhône varieties grown in the Sierra foothills.
“Their Mourvèdre bottlings are getting seriously awesome,” the magazine reported.
Palisadian and UCLA graduate Richard Crowell founded Red Car Winery with a friend in 2000 to make Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on the Sonoma coast.
Named after the long-lost trolley cars of LA, it began as a hobby and has now grown into one of the most respected producers of cool climate wines in the world.
But the town still lags behind on the eating front. In Jonathan Gold’s most recent inventory of the 101 best restaurants in Los Angeles, none were located in Pacific Palisades.
Likewise, in this year’s L.A. Weekly “Best of LA” compendium, no place in the Palisades made the list. Although this could change next year, when up to seven new eateries are due to open in Rick Caruso’s Palisades Village project.
