A group of seven Boy Scouts from Pacific Palisades recently volunteered with TreePeople to plant trees in a Lynwood neighborhood. The boys learned the impact planting trees can have in their community.
TreePeople’s mission is to inspire, engage and support people to take personal responsibility for the urban environment, making it safe, healthy, fun and sustainable and to share our process as a model for the world.
As the Falcons Patrol leader, I led all seven members of the patrol in this community volunteer outreach day. Patrol members Brody Becker, Max Bergman and Johnny McKnown are all Palisadians.
This day of giving back fulfilled my patrol requirement called the “Good Turn Trip.” I researched ways to give back to the community and discovered the TreePeople. I was inspired by their focus on community and education.
As a patrol, we were able to plant three individual trees. We dug out the holes, positioned the trees and the support beams, distributed mulch, and provided plenty of water. We learned it is important for the trees to be able to wave in the wind a little so the roots and overall tree gets stronger.
The scouts named each of the trees they planted and gave each new tree the TreePeople Blessing: “Trees need People. People need Trees.”
