After cruising through league play with only one defeat, the Pacific Palisades Baseball Association’s Pony squad took on Santa Monica Red in the three-game championship series last week.
Oliver Yi, Alex Denham and Henry Wendorf each had two hits and Matty Gottesman struck out five batters in two and two-thirds innings as Palisades won the first game 14-6. Samo Red took the second game 7-2 but Lucas Herman had three hits and recorded five strikeouts in four innings pitched and Truman Pauley added five strikeouts in two and one-third innings for Palisades. Samo Red won the decider 1-0, but James Rockwell pitched four innings with eight strikeouts. Palisades finished 11-3-2.
Rounding out Palisades’ roster were Leo Velez, Max Rodman, Nolan Ahders, Pierce Bergstein, Matt Bertram, Brennan Clark, TJ Hastings, Crew Morrow, Kam Naficy and Ilan Reiss.
