After a brief February hiatus, the Palisades Podcast returns in March, welcoming Assemblymember Richard Bloom as the next guest interviewed by podcast hosts and longtime members of the community Maryam Zar and Steve Cron.
“Richard has been representing [California State] Assembly District 50 and the Palisades community in the Assembly since 2012,” Zar explained ahead of the meeting. “Shortly after his election, Richard quickly established himself as a leading voice on climate change and was appointed chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Resources and Transportation. As chair, he has made reducing our carbon footprint and enhancing quality of life—now and for future generations—a core mission of the committee.”
Since then, Zar explained, Bloom has “promoted sustainable planning, even while expanding affordable housing, and reducing traffic congestion.”
“He consistently pushes for increased renewable energy development and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels,” she added.
Other issues areas include efforts to combat the prescription drug overdose epidemic, address homelessness, improve services for veterans, protect the rights of the LGBTQ community, foster local redevelopment and create jobs.
In addition to Pacific Palisades, Bloom represents the cities and communities of Agoura Hills, Bel Air, Malibu, Santa Monica, Topanga, Brentwood and others which fall into Assembly District 50.
Prior to being elected to the State Assembly, Bloom served on the Santa Monica City Council for 13 years and mayor three times. He has also served as chair of the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission, chair of the Westside Cities Council and a special California State Senate appointment to the California Coastal Commission.
Bloom has been married to his high school sweetheart Robbie Black for 40 years. She is a healthcare professional.
“He is a father of two, a husband to a lifelong love he often calls his ‘better half,’ and a friend to this community from the get-go until the present, when he recently announced his intent to run for County Supervisor,” Zar shared. “Redistricting lines notwithstanding, tune in to listen to your current State Assemblymember for Assembly District 50, and possibly your future County Supervisor for District 3.”
Zar added that listeners can expect an “entertaining, informative hour spent with Richard Bloom, talking about the man, not the politician.”
The Palisadian-Post has partnered with Zar and Cron to present the Palisades Podcast. Each month, an interview, hosted by Zar and Cron, is released, highlighting extraordinary lives listeners might not have otherwise had a chance to meet.
