Palisades High head football coach Tim Hyde has finalized his team’s schedule for the 2015 season and the Dolphins will be playing five teams from the San Fernando Valley next fall.
Palisades travels to Granada Hills for a Zero Week clash against Southern Section small school powerhouse Sierra Canyon, then hosts Sylmar, which reached the City Section Division II finals last season and has since moved up to Division I.
The Dolphins have a bye in Week 2, then host Canoga Park, a City Section Division II program. Rounding out the nonleague slate are road games at Granada Hills (in the annual Charter Bowl) and Chatsworth, two more City Division II teams.
“It’s a good schedule,” said Hyde, who has guided the Dolphins to back-to-back Division I playoff appearances. “I like that we open with a Southern Section school and that we’re playing five Valley teams because they play good football out there.”
One rivalry that won’t be renewed is that between Palisades and Santa Monica. The teams have played 29 times since 1979 and met for the 13th consecutive year last season.
The Dolphins opened against Los Angeles Marshall in 2013 and 2014, winning both games. The other nonleague opponent dropped was Harvard-Westlake, which lost to the Dolphins in 2013 and beat them last year.
The Western League schedule includes home games against Venice, Hamilton, and Westchester. The Dolphins finished in a three-way tie for second last season after losses at Venice and Hamilton.
Palisades’ junior varsity team, which played four Thursday games last year, will play all 10 games on Friday in the fall.
