Palisades High’s girls soccer squad came as close as it ever has to winning the City Section championship last winter, falling in a shootout to Granada Hills in the finals.
The Dolphins have another chance to capture their first upper division crown beginning today at 3 p.m. when they host Taft in the first round at Stadium by the Sea. The Dolphins are seeded No. 3 in the 14-team draw (top-seeded El Camino Real and No. 2 San Pedro have first-round byes) while Taft is No. 14. Should the Dolphins prevail they would host either No. 6 Birmingham or No. 11 North Hollywood in the quarterfinals next Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Palisades boys squad is seeded No. 14 in the 16-team Division I bracket and travel to No. 3 Banning in the first round Friday (kickoff at 3 p.m.). Should the Dolphins pull off the upset they would travel to No. 6 Granada Hills or No. 11 Poly in the quarterfinals next Wednesday at 3 p.m..
