The 2014-15 Western League girls soccer team has been announced and it comes as no surprise that 10 Palisades High players have made the list.
The Dolphins’ varsity squad went 12-0 in league play (outscoring the opposition 57-3) and advanced to the quarterfinals of the City Section Division I playoffs.
Making the All-League first team were forwards Hannah De Silva and Kaitlyn Parcell, midfielder Zoe Capanna and defenders Kiana Ferguson and Sydra Gianassi.
Second-team selections were goalkeeper Katie Wilkes, defenders Caitlin Bremner and Bella Escobedo, midfielder Lauryn Wilson and forward Erin Ross.
At the program’s annual postseason banquet, de Silva was named Most Valuable Player on varsity after leading the Dolphins in goals. She has signed with Long Beach State.
Goalkeeper Annika Lundeberg received the Lady Dolphin Award and Gianassi received the Held Family Spirit Award. The Coaches’ Award went to Wilson, Parcell was named Offensive Player of the Year, Ferguson was named Defensive Player of the Year and junior Lulu Adams was chosen Most Improved. Capanna earned the Palisadian-Post “Will to Win” Award.
Rachel Boiteux was named MVP for the junior varsity, India Holland was the defensive player of the year, Kat Nuckols and Lauren Welborn won Coaches Awards and Mia Moreno was the Rookie of the Year and Meghan Jones won Most Improved.
Palisades’ JV team finished 11-0-1 in league, outscoring the opposition 71-1.
“I am extremely proud of all the girls and I’m looking forward to next season,” first-year coach Christian Chambers said. “We have a good group coming back and we’ll learn from this year.”
