It was a Palisades High reunion when Santa Clara met Long Beach State in the first round of the NCAA Division I women’s soccer tournament Nov. 12.
Kaitlyn Parcell, last year’s team MVP and Post Cup winner as outstanding senior athlete at Pali High, is a freshman striker for Santa Clara while Hannah DeSilva, the Dolphins’ team MVP in 2014-2015, is a sophomore defender and forward for Long Beach State. It marked the second straight year the teams squared off in the NCAA playoffs and Santa Clara prevailed 3-0.
Parcell is the only Palisades player ever to tally 50+ goals and 50+ assists in her varsity career. DeSilva scored 15 goals her senior year at Palisades and also won back-to-back championships in cross country.
The Broncos moved on to the second round, where they upset top-ranked Stanford 1-0 in double overtime. They blanked North Carolina State 3-0 Monday to advance to the quarterfinals Saturday against Georgetown.
