Once again the Commissioner’s Cup trophy will rest behind the glass in the Palisades High gym after the Dolphins again finished the 2018-19 school year as the winningest athletic program in the City Section.
Palisades captured 12 City titles en route to winning the award for the fifth time (every year it has been given), only 17.5 points ahead of runner-up Granada Hills.
Schools are awarded points for each round a team advances in the playoffs. Palisades accumulated 120 points in the fall, 88.25 in the winter and 199 in the spring for a total of 407.25. Granada Hills was second with 390 points, followed by Birmingham (362), El Camino Real (313.75), Cleveland (252), Eagle Rock (248), San Pedro (246), Bell (229), Marshall (214) and South East (205). Palisades won titles in girls/boys tennis, girls/boys swimming, boys/girls water polo, boys/girls volleyball, boys/girls lacrosse, girls basketball and boys track & field.
