It was another game and another victory, but Palisades High junior varsity football players left Stadium by the Sea upset after allowing a touchdown in the last 10 seconds of a 34-7 victory over University in Friday’s Western League opener.
“The kids wanted doughnuts (their reward for shutouts) bad but this is a good lesson that you have to play hard and concentrate until the clock says zero,” Dolphins head coach Ray Marsden said. “This is the third game in a row where everyone played, the third game in a row that we didn’t allow a pass completion and the fourth time this season that we scored on the first drive of each half. I dobut I’ve ever had a team do that more than twice in one season before.”
Marsden credited the offensive line, particularly center Malcolm Prophit for making perfect snaps in pistol formation, and Andrw Alcaraz on his blocking and a catch falling out of bounds.
Quarterback Jake Nadley audibled at the line of scrimmage and fired a 15-yard strike to Jack O’Rourke for the Dolphins’ first touchdown. Obioma Nwanonenyi recovered a Wildcats fumble and Max Palees scored on a 25-yard run up the middle on the next play to extend’ Palisades lead. Nadley scored on a bootleg in the second quarter to make it 21-0.
Darion Robinson’s 35-yard run capped a scoring drive to begin the third quarter and Tayari Gloster closed the scoring on a 15-yard run. Kicker Tommy Meek made four of five extra-point attempts (one was blocked) and Adrian Cooper stood out at defensive tackle.
