Playoff positioning was at stake Saturday in Sylmar, where Palisades High’s varsity volleyball team participated in its last regular season tournament.
The Dolphins swam through pool play, sweeping Central City Value (25-21, 25-11), Locke (25-18, 25-12), Hoover (25-12, 25-15) and South Gate (25-17, 25-7) to earn the No. 3 seed behind El Camio Real and Calabasas. In the quarterfinals, they beat South Gate again, 25-11. In the semifinals, Palisades lost to defending champion Calabasas, 25-13. The second-seeded Coyotes went on to repeat, beating Venice in the championship match. The Dolphins won the tournament for the first time in 2014, beating Calabasas in the final.
On Monday, Palisades was back at home and swept University, 25-13, 25-6, 25-15, to improve to 9-0 in the Western League. The Dolphins hosted LACES on Wednesday and travel to Fairfax on Friday. They host Westchester in their league finale next Monday.
