The Palisades High girls golf team is back on the course preparing to defend its Western League championship this fall.
The Golfin’ Dolphins tee off the season next Thursday at Penmar versus Venice and Fairfax. Other league opponents are Westchester, LACES and University. League finals are Oct. 27 at Balboa in Encino, the City finals are Nov. 1, also at Balboa, the SoCal Regionals are Nov. 9 at Canyon Crest Country Club in Riverside and the state finals are Nov. 14 at Poppy Hills.
Despite losing three players to graduation: Sophia Eberlein (Cal), Camila Paleno (UCLA) and Carly Weitz (Cal Poly SLO) the squad returns junior regional qualifier Melanie Matayoshi, Lillia Weissmuller, who improved over the summer, fellow sophomore Mariana Paleno and junior Abby Brown, who scored in every league match last year.
Newcomer Maliyah Flemmings has shown great promise as have returners Sara Medernach, Leina Sunagawa and Spencer Kellen.
