The Palisades High football team is back at Stadium by the Sea today for its annual grudge match against Granada Hills and the Dolphins are determined to keep the Charter Bowl trophy for one more year.
Since the rivalry game was started in 2006 Palisades holds an 8-4 advantage and has won the last six meetings, including a 49-24 barn burner last fall.
“Through two games we’re still a work in progress—especially the offensive line—but I’m proud of the energy we’ve played with so far,” Pali High Coach Tim Hyde said. “Playing the Charter Bowl is all about pride for our program. We really love this game and it’s another chance for us to continue developing our identity.”
The teams enter the contest from opposite ends of the spectrum. The Dolphins have given up a combined total of eight points in blowout victories over Cleveland and Sylmar while the Highlanders have scored a total of six points in lopsided losses to Oxnard and Grace Brethren.
“Granada Hills will not be worried about us,” Hyde added. “They’ve played the No. 1 ranked teams in CIF Southern Section Division 4 and 6.”
The JV game kicks off at 4 p.m. and varsity follows at 7.
