When the season started, one of the goals of the Palisades High football team was to make the City Section’s Open Division playoffs.
Calpreps’ final City regular season rankings were revealed Saturday morning and, as expected, the Dolphins were one of eight teams to qualify for the elite division started last fall.
“It’s a tremendous accomplishment for our program,” Pali High Coach Tim Hyde said. “We’re super excited.”
Palisades is seeded No. 7 and travels to No. 2 Eagle Rock, the Northern League champion, in the quarterfinals Nov. 9. The winner will play No. 3 Carson or No. 6 Garfield in the semifinals the following week.
Narbonne, which won the inaugural Open Division title last season, is the No. 1 seed and hosts No. 8 Venice while No. 5 San Fernando takes on No. 4 Birmingham.
Palisades has made the upper division quarterfinals three years in a row for the first time since the Dolphins reached the quarterfinals five straight times from 1974-78. Palisades lost to San Fernando in the 1974 City title game and made the lower 3A Division final in 1987.
