If the Palisades High cross country team wanted to send a message at the Western League finals last Thursday in Elysian Park, it was mission accomplished.
The Dolphins defeated second-place Venice by 47 points in the varsity boys race, sweeping the top six spots. Brent Smith ran the three-mile course in 16:37.62, followed by Alec Stewart (16:38.74), Ben Hamer (16:40.24), Mason Cadden (16:40.63), Ethan Massaji (a personal-best 16:41.00) and Finn Cawley (16:41.31).
Palisades took 10 of the top 13 spots in the JV boys division. Emmett Kallmeyer was first in 18:04.14, Jake Greanias was second in 18:09.93, Luca Tagliati was fourth in 18:43.52 and Andrew McCoy placed fifth in a personal-best 18:47.87. Mark Barboza won the frosh/soph boys race in a personal-best 17:31.81.
The Dolphins swept the top five positions in the varsity girls division, paced by freshman Miranda Schriver (17:48.65), Sarah Bentley (17:52.78), Kimia Samandi (18:55.24), Elisa Kim (20:03.49) and Jessica Bierschenk (20:05.05).
Ilaria Stewart (22:26.02), Caroline Hall (22:22.46) and Elena Schultz (22:31.58) swept the top three spots in the JV girls race and Casandra Hernandez ran a personal-best 20:07.93 for first in the frosh/soph girls race, followed by Jennifer Karlan (21:01.65), Chloe Boldra (21.34.21), Sophia Klotz (a personal-record 21:39.46) and Alicia Sigworth (22:01.62).
