A day after winning its first City Section championship, the Palisades High boys soccer team received the No. 5 seed in the CIF Southern California Regional Division I tournament.
The Dolphins (19-2-2) will travel to No. 4 Santa Barbara for a first-round game Tuesday at 4 p.m., with the winner advancing to the semifinals Thursday against either top-seeded Cathedral Catholic (the San Diego Section Open Division champion) or No. 8 Warren, a Southern Section Division 1 semifinalist.
Santa Barbara (22-6-3) lost to Loyola 3-1 in the Southern Section Division 1 finals. The Dons didn’t play any City teams this season but Palisades Coach Dave Suarez knows every opponent will be formidable in the eight-team bracket.
“We’re down a few guys and still pretty banged up from Saturday, so the most important thing is to make sure we’re as healthy as possible for Tuesday,” Suarez said. “They’ve scored a lot of goals, but we’ve been good defensively all year. I don’t think we’ll change much from what we normally do.”
