After piloting Palisades High’s varsity girls basketball team to a 9-17 record in her first season, head coach Danielle Foley has opted not to return next winter.
“I got married at the beginning of June—right when school was getting out,” Foley said. “I’ve decided to step down because my husband [Brian] and I have some things going on in our lives that take priority right now. When I commit to something I want to be able to give 100 percent of myself and I didn’t feel like I’d be able to do that this upcoming season. There’s only so much time in a day. I love basketball and coaching so this was a hard decision, but my plan is to continue teaching P.E. at Pali and support Brian in his art career however I can.”
The Dolphins finished last in the Western League in 2017-18 and lost their final nine games, but Foley is confident that whoever takes her place will inherit a program on the rise.
“The team is going to do great next season,” she added. “Most of the girls have at least one year of high school experience under their belt and know what it’ll take to be successful in our league. If they work hard and play together they’re going to be tough to beat. They’re still young and will only get better the next couple years.”
