As the season winds down, Palisades High baseball coach Mike Voelkel believes his team is on the bubble for a City Section Open Division playoff berth. The Dolphins are used to playing in the City’s top division, but this year winning the Western League may not be enough.
“We’ve played a tough nonleague schedule like we always do but we haven’t been able to win those games,” Voelkel said. “I’m really pleased with the improvements we’ve made since the start of the season. We’ll see how it all shakes out.”
Palisades continued its domination in league play with a 5-1 victory over Hamilton, a nice bounce back after last Saturday’s 9-2 loss to Roosevelt.
“They’re maybe the best overall team we’ve played this year,” Voelkel said of the Rough Riders. “Granada Hills has good pitching, but these guys play good defense, run the bases well and can hit.”
