National Signing Day is often a big deal for student-athletes hoping to realize their dreams of playing in college and that dream became a reality last Wednesday for eight talented Palisades High athletes in a short ceremony in the gym at lunch.
After pounding the championship winning kill for the Dolphins’ girls volleyball team in the fall, senior middle blocker Annie Wibbelsman signed her letter of intent with Connecticut College.
Volleyball outside hitter Akhil Tangutur, the reigning City Most Valuable Player who led the Pali High boys to their second straight City title last spring, signed with UC Irvine.
Soccer midfielder Mia Capanna was at the table to pen her letter with Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York., where she will join her older sister Zoe, who graduated from Pali High two years ago.
Lacrosse defender Kyle Lee signed with Brown University and tennis twins Ireland and Sophia Amato, who played on three City title-winning teams at Palisades, both signed with Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.
Football lineman T.J. Michel signed with the University of Dubuque in Iowa while safety/wide receiver Will Janney (who also plays on Palisades’ varsity basketball team) signed with the College of Idaho.
