With the new year comes new life. Born to Brendan and Dara Beer, Kostas “Gus” Samson Beer is the Palisadian-Post’s First Baby of 2017.
Gus, who weighed seven pounds, nine ounces and measured 21 inches in length, arrived in the wee hours of Jan. 3 at St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica.
“Kostas,” a name meaning “steady and stable,” pays homage to the honeymoon spent by his parents in Greece.
The newborn’s proud mother Dara told the Post that although the sex of their newborn remained a surprise until the end, she and father Brendan had the nickname “Gus” long saved on retainer.
“We have always loved the name Gus, but we’ve never been too keen on using a nickname as a first name,” Dara said. “Not only does the name ‘Kostas’ remind us of a very happy time in our lives, the ‘K’ also pays tribute to my late grandfather.”
The Beer family, who have roots in Philadelphia, live in Marquez Knolls and have called Pacific Palisades home for two years now.
“We wanted to find a home where we could raise our family, send our children to school and be a part of a community,” Dara said.
Gus joins his two sisters Millie, 4, and Gigi, 2, who are both already very curious about their new family member. Dara said that while the girls have been gifted with a little brother, baby Gus will be gaining “two very sassy older sisters.”
“He’s sure in for a whirlwind,” Dara said. “I hope he’s ready.”
Watch out girls—just over one week old, baby Gus has already stolen this year’s spotlight.
This year’s winning baby received a giant teddy bear with prizes and gift certificates from:
