Jon Varat raises his hands in victory trailed by fellow Palisades Will Rogers race committee member David Hibbert on July 4. The two were out for their early Saturday morning run and covered most of the 10K course to the polo field at Will Rogers State Historic Park, back up Sunset to Chautauqua and along Huntington streets to the finish at Palisades Recreation Center.
A group of local runners decided to keep with tradition on the Fourth of July by running the Palisades Will Rogers 5K route through the Huntington neighborhood (with a little modification to avoid Sunset). The participants, all wearing matching flag socks and bandanas, were Gwendolen Twist, Erin Karish, Wendy and Matthew Garff, Fati, Layla and Leena Adeli, Nell Oliver, and Sydney Suh.
The Draycott has welcomed Chef Michael Fiorelli (Olivetta, Love & Salt) as culinary director of the Palisades Village restaurant, as well as an array of new dishes on the dinner and brunch menus. Melina Meza (ink., Broken Shaker) has also been brought on as The Draycott’s beverage director to oversee the restaurant’s cocktail program. The Draycott is also offering weekend-time Lawn Libations, served at a stand from 3 to 5 p.m. for guests to enjoy mason jar cocktails or a bottle of wine on the Green between brunch and dinner.
Palisades-Malibu YMCA Summer Day Camp participants between the ages of 3 and 5 helped create art bottles with Cindy Simon, which were on display at Winding Way.
