The Palisades-Malibu YMCA Center for Social Responsibility (Y-CSR) is expanding to allow access for the whole Palisades community, thanks to a partnership with the Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club (PPWC) and through the Y-CSR website: www.ymcasocialresponsibilitycenter.org.
The Y-CSR began as a partnership between the Y and Palisades High School. The school-based program is designed to inspire students to embrace responsibility for their actions and to have a positive impact, through their activities, on the school, local community and the world. Many students far exceed the 40 hours of community service required for graduation, as they explore their passions through service learning. The program provides opportunities for students to lead projects of consequence, which could result in life lessons that strengthen both character and college applications.
Thanks to the new partnership with the PPWC, all Palisades residents can now access the Y-CSR structure and network of service opportunities to get involved with nonprofit organizations and have a positive impact on our community and the world. To expand the listings of service activities, the Y is calling upon local organizations to submit volunteer needs here in the Palisades as well as in surrounding areas.
The Y welcomes more input to grow the calendar and to encourage generosity among Palisadians of all generations. Generosity is an important lesson that should start at a young age; hands-on learning is most impactful and should be taught by example at home and school.
Everyone benefits when we volunteer; our lives are richer when we share our blessings. Even though we live in an affluent area, volunteer action in our own town and donations to local nonprofits strengthen the character of our community.
