The Los Angeles Conservancy has launched a new web site designed to foster the exploration and preservation of historic places throughout L.A. County.
The site’s first major redevelopment since it first launched in 2000, the new laconservancy.org features background on hundreds of historic places, the latest information about active Conservancy preservation issues, and a dedicated section about Modern architecture as part of the Getty initiative, Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A.
The section of the new website (microsite) dedicated to Modern architecture features:
• A map of more than 300 modern places to explore throughout Los Angeles County, which can be searched by keyword or filtered by architect, style, decade, property type, community, and proximity to the user
• Three virtual tours of the San Fernando Valley highlighting Ranch-house neighborhoods, hillside homes, and gems along Ventura Boulevard
• Curated guides to historic places based on eight themes: Art and Architecture, Big Business, Car Culture, Homegrown Architects, Housing the Masses, Innovations in Technology, Living the High Life at Home, and The Public Realm;
• An essay by the preeminent authority on Southern California Modernism, Alan Hess, on Modernism’s development in Greater Los Angeles between 1940 and 1990.
