Fire signage has been placed by the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks along Temescal Canyon Road, warning of severe fire danger and reminding community members and visitors that smoking, fires, barbecues and portable stoves are prohibited in the area.
“This area is a very high fire severity zone,” Sharon Kilbride, Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness chair and law enforcement coordinator, shared in a statement. “We noted over 50 areas along Temescal in the past year where people are cooking and dumping the coals directly onto the ground and leaving them to burn.”
People in the area who were confronted by Kilbride and others wanted to see signs forbidding them from cooking.
Kilbride shared that within three weeks of contacting Recs and Parks, signs were up in all but two areas, which were expected to be completed in the coming week.
The signage will be enforced the beach patrol officers, according to Kilbride.
“The task force is very thankful to everyone who helped make Temescal Canyon safe,” Kilbride shared.
