PPTFH to Host Online Meeting | Pacific Palisades
The Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness will host its first online meeting on Monday, July 27, from 7 to 8 p.m. with the topic “The Homeless Front: Where Are We Now?” Featured speakers will be Heidi Marston, executive director of Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, and John Maceri, CEO of The People Concern.
“The LAHSA homeless count from January of this year showed that 12.7% more Angelenos fell into homelessness this year than last, for a total of 66,433 people,” PPTFH representatives shared in an email ahead of the meeting. “Add expected increases caused by COVID-19 and we have even greater numbers to take care of. A federal judge has ordered that homeless people living along the freeways be moved and housed, but where?
“In this meeting, we will hear from two of LA’s most prominent leaders working on these very issues. Join us to hear about their work and where hope lies ahead!”

‘How Can Humans Coexist With Monster Wildfires?’ | Pacific Palisades
Zócalo Public Square, with Palisadian Moira Shourie as executive director, has teamed up with Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West to host an event addressing “How Can Humans Coexist With Monster Wildfires?” on Thursday, July 16, at 6:30 p.m.
“From Australia to the Amazon to the American West, megafires—wildfires that burn more than 100,000 acres of land—have grown so frequent, large and deadly that they’ve forced a reevaluation of how human societies coexist with fire,” information about the event reports. “In a warming world, governments are confronting whether we must retreat from certain places to survive in a fierier world.”
The event, which features historical ecologist Jared Dahl Alderd, CSU Long Beach American Indian Studies professor Theresa Gregor and Fernanda Santos, “The Fire Line” author and professor of practice at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, will be moderated by Nathan Rott, national desk correspondent with NPR.
