After years of battling inoperable brain cancer, Sean Hunter passed away early last year leaving his mother, who had been relentlessly fighting for him, heartbroken.
However, Sean also left his mother inspired and motivated to continue the fight for others with the same diagnosis.
Michele Hunter will be hosting the second annual Research in Action Walk on Sunday, Feb. 25. Taking off from Corpus Christi, the 3K walk has already raised close to $137,000, aiming to break the $250,000 record set last year.
After having great success with neurologist and neuro-oncologist, Dr. Kesari, who accepted Sean as a patient when no other doctors would, she remains supportive of his work and has made it her life’s mission to help continue his research.
Michele has now partnered with the John Wayne Cancer Foundation to raise money for Kesari’s immunotherapy practices.
“My vision is to support Dr. Kaseri’s research work,” Michele told the Palisadian-Post. “He’s having such success with his new innovations of drugs and procedures and, because of our walk, there were many people who were put on trials that would never have been able to have access or afford to have him treat them.”
All the net proceeds after expenses will go to Kesari’s research team and his work.
“Everyone’s welcome. We want everyone to participate,” Michele said. “It started out as a legacy of love. In [Sean’s] name many people’s lives will be saved and that will be a blessing for me.”
