If you stopped by The Yogurt Shoppe and looked at the front window, you may have seen an assortment of monsters, ghosts, bats, spiders and pumpkins. That’s because the Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club hosted its annual Halloween Window Painting Contest, and my sister Riley and her Art Squad participated, winning first place in the kindergarten to third grade category.
On a Friday after school, the Art Squad and their art teacher, Bobbie Rich, took a field trip to The Yogurt Shoppe to create a Monster Mash, this year’s theme of the window-painting contest.
My friend Grace and I were also there, and as the monsters and creepy clouds took shape, we got to sit back and enjoy a frozen yogurt. I had orange sherbet with maraschino cherries, gummy bears, mochi and unicorn bacon. Grace picked chocolate with chocolate sauce.
Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club members judged the windows based on four criteria: originality, artistic ability, neatness and theme.
I am not sure which is most fun: painting the windows, eating the frozen yogurt with loads of toppings or cleaning up the windows by Nov. 3.
