Steve Kerr, who grew up in Pacific Palisades and played baseball and basketball at Palisades High, coached the Golden State Warriors to their first NBA championship in 40 years last Tuesday night, June 16 and became the first rookie head coach since 1982 to lead his team to the league title.
The Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games in the finals to cap a season in which they got off to the best start in franchise history and posted the league’s best record at 67-15. It was the sixth championship ring for Kerr, who won five titles as a player (three with the Chicago Bulls and two with the San Antonio Spurs).
