In her third race of the NCAA cross country season, California sophomore Marissa Williams clocked 20:52.1 for 38th overall out of 285 runners in the Women’s 6K Blue Race at the Pre-National Invitational on Saturday at Indiana State University in Terre Haute.
Junior Bethan Knights was the Golden Bears’ first finisher, taking eighth place in 20:21.0. Erin Finn of Michigan won in 19:44.7.
Williams opened the season with a sixth-place finish (21:13.6) in the San Francisco Invitational 6K on Sept. 3 and ran 16:44.6 for 16th place in the 5K at the Joe Piane Invitational at Notre Dame. She had a stellar freshman year in cross country and track at Berkeley, earning All-Conference cross country honors after a collegiate-best 20:24.0 at the Pac-12 Championships in the fall and taking sixth in the 5,000 meters at the Pac-12 Track Championships.
A 2015 Palisades High graduate, Williams won the Post Cup Award as the Dolphins’ outstanding senior athlete.
