As she approaches the finish line in her stellar prep career, Marissa Williams has a few final details to take care of.
The Palisades High senior will try to set new standards in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters next Thursday in the City Section track and field championships at Cerritos College in Norwalk.
Williams was the fastest qualifier in both distance events at today’s prelims, clocking 5:00.83 and 10:41.11, respectively. Last year, she became the first female in City finals history to sweep the 800, 1,600 and 3,200. Now she wants to better her record times of 4:56.60 in the 1,600 and 10:37.33 in the 3,200, which she set as a sophomore.
Senior Natalie Marsh also qualified in both events, clocking 5:28.86 for ninth overall in the 1,600 and 11:58.10 for fifth in the 3,200. Sophomore Shannon Lee (12:26.08) and junior Emma Ulfvengren (12:32.05) also made the 3,200 finals.
The varsity boys 4×100 relay ran the fourth-best time (43.38 seconds) and freshman Ben Hamer (9:54.16) and senior Shane Brouwer (9:57.15) qualified in the boys 1,600.
Freshman Jite Agege (59.38) qualified in the girls 400 meters and ran 25.96 to make the 200 finals along with junior Kendal Lake (25.97) and older sister Ejiro Agege (26.30).
Palisades’ boys and girls 4×400 relays both took third at prelims, junior Whitney Yost cleared 4-8 to advance in the girls high jump, Marcellus Cole (43-1) qualified in the boys shot put, City champion Alex Olsen was the top qualifier in the girls pole vault and Conner Loveless qualified in the boys pole vault.
