Venice Beach is one of the few places in Los Angeles with a thriving and eclectic street life, which has stimulated architectural dynamism.
In the MAK Center’s upcoming 2013 architectural tour, three of the five houses on the tour are located in the beach community. In conjunction with MAK’s current exhibition, “Everything Loose Will Land” and other shows in the Getty Foundation’s Pacific Standard Time, the self-drive tour will take place between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 23.
The houses on the tour include: Frank Gehry 1980’s Spiller House in Venice; Neil M Denari Architects renovation and 2007 extension of the Alan Voo House in Los Angeles; The Peter Alexander Studio, designed by the artist in 1999 in Venice; Eric Owen Moss’ 1962 Petal House in Rancho Park and the 2-4-6-8- House designed by Morphosis in 1978 Venice.
For tickets (self-drive, $70; shuttle option surcharge, $60), call (323) 651-1510. Guests will receive an itinerary in the mail that indicate the order and schedule for each house and time. The itinerary will be on the ticket.
The MAK Architecture Tour is the annual fundraiser for the MAK Center for Art and Architecture, L.A. at the Schindler House, a nonprofit organization in West Hollywood.
