Last week, Los Angeles Department of Transportation activated a left-turn phasing signal at the intersection of Chautauqua and Sunset boulevards, according to information shared by Councilmember Mike Bonin.
“Improvements at the intersection have been a high priority for the community and for me,” Bonin wrote. “The busy intersection was the scene of a fatal collision in 2017.”
The councilmember identified the intersection as a “key feature” of his Westside Fast Forward initiative, expressing gratitude that he was able to work with LADOT to install the signal.
“The new signal will improve safety for everyone who uses the road, and also help traffic move more efficiently on the often-crowded street, making it much easier for drivers to turn safely when turning west from Sunset onto Chautauqua headed south, where there is a curve that prevents them from seeing oncoming traffic,” Bonin wrote. “LADOT crews also upgraded an existing crosswalk to enhance visibility for drivers as pedestrians cross the intersection.”
