Laura Dadea Kuper passed away at her home surrounded by her family on June 17 at the age of 87.
Laura was born in Milan, Italy where she met and married Polish Harry Kuper. They moved to New York in 1949. She raised two children and then returned to school to earn a master’s degree. She was a math teacher and counselor in the New York City school system for 20 years.
Harry and Laura moved to Pacific Palisades in 1994. Laura immediately became active in numerous organizations, including the Palisades’ “Newcomers,” Red Hat Women, book clubs, Chabad, B’nai Birth and Hadassah.
But she never stopped learning, taking at least four classes every semester at Santa Monica Emeritus College. She made gorgeous jewelry and became an accomplished artist, not to mention the best cook ever.
She won many art awards at the Palisades Branch Library and at Santa Monica Emeritus College exhibits. She learned to play bridge and played all over the Westside. She was a long time subscriber to the Disney Music Center and attended as many live shows at the Hollywood Bowl and other venues around town. She loved going to the shows at the Palisades Theater.
Laura loved living in the Palisades. Laura had suffered from a heart condition since she was a little girl; she underwent numerous heart surgeries and treatments, but would always be a fighter and came back stronger and more determined than ever. She is also a breast cancer survivor.
She loved to travel and explore sites and people all over the world. She was totally devoted to her children, grandchildren, and her sister and extended family in New York, Italy, and Israel.
Her smile and laughter will be deeply missed. Her love for life will continue to inspire all who knew her.
