LAFD to Track Area Encampments

In an effort to thwart potential wildfire, officials with the Los Angeles Fire Department will begin keeping tabs on homeless encampments located in high-risk fire zones.

The survey, which is projected to take a week to complete and will include areas along Temescal Canyon Road and Pacific Coast Highway, is part of a new city wide effort to clear makeshift encampments from parklands hidden from the general public.

The effort comes a month after a fire originating in a homeless encampment set off last December’s Skirball Fire; the weeklong blaze burned down six homes near the 405 freeway in the Sepulveda Pass.
