Having already been named the Western League Co-MVP, Palisades High senior first baseman Kyle Grassl was selected to the All-City Open Division team. He is the only Palisades player to be so honored this spring.
Grassl played in all 24 games for the Dolphins, batting .302 with 19 hits, 11 runs scored, eight RBIs, six doubles and five stolen bases.
He had an .857 fielding percentage with 24 put-outs. He also made eight appearances on the mound, posting a 4-1 record with a 0.73 earned run average, 30 strikeouts and just three walks in 28.2 innings pitched.
Grassl will continue his baseball career at Oberlin College in Ohio in the fall along with Pali High teammate Zach Ritts.
Pali High Coach Voelkel is sad to see Grassl go but is confident he will excel academically and athletically at the next level.
“Kyle is going to a high academic Division III school and will have a chance to play as a freshman,” Voelkel said. “He was an intuitive player who influenced a lot of other players with his academic success and every day approach to improving the program. He left an indelible footprint to show others how to be a model student athlete.”
Third baseman/pitcher Dylan Kordic of Open champion San Pedro is Player of the Year. Venice’s Isaiah Morales also made the team.
