There’s “being in the zone” and then there’s the level Isabel Kelly reached Monday afternoon.
In the middle of an otherwise routine volleyball victory, the senior opposite hitter reeled off a remarkable 23 consecutive points on serve – including 10 aces – to close out the second set in Palisades High’s 25-6, 25-2, 25-6 sweep of Western League rival Westchester.
The score was tied 2-2 when Kelly stepped to the line and the visiting Comets never won another point.
“It’s extremely rare to see that at the varsity level,” Dolphins assistant coach Anthony Elizondo said. “I wouldn’t say Isabel’s our best server, but she’s good at putting the ball where she wants and exploiting the other team’s weaknesses.”
Outside hitter Sarah Hurst also had a strong match, finishing with 12 kills, as the Dolphins remained undefeated in league play.
Palisades plays in the Sylmar Tournament on Oct. 24.
