July 20, 1937 – April 5, 2019
Abeloved member of the community, Katie Kalvin, passed away on the evening of April 5 at 81 years of age.
Katie lived in the Palisades for over 40 years and thoroughly enjoyed the community. She was a town staple, well known and liked by many.
She would often walk around the village, have coffee each morning at Noah’s Bagels, and regularly frequented Taste at the Palisades and Pearl Dragon for happy hour.
She also worked at local businesses including The Riviera Country Club, Palisades Beauty Supply, the Pacific Palisades Farmers Market and the well-known Mort’s Deli.
Katie was born in Greece and her family immigrated to the United States when she was a young girl. She modeled as a young woman in the Midwest and moved to Los Angeles on her own at the age of 21. Her parents and two surviving brothers then followed her move to the West Coast.
She was a strong, independent woman known for her humor, great personality, friendly demeanor and sense of style. She loved country music, happy hour, her native country of Greece, America, being social, and just walking over to anyone to get a smile and a conversation.
She is survived by her only daughter, Alicia. Alicia loved her mother dearly. “She was my mother, father, sister and best friend. She raised me on her own, working to send me to the best private schools and ensuring I had a great future ahead,” Alicia said.
Their devotion to each other was easily noticed as they were often seen together around town.
A Celebration of Life party was held in Katie’s honor at the bar at Taste on Sunday, April 28, at 4 p.m.
