As the floor leader of Palisades High’s girls volleyball team, junior setter Kaia Kanan played a pivotal role in the Dolphins regaining the City Open Division championship this spring. Last week, it was revealed that she has achieved the section’s highest accolade—City Player of the Year.
Joining Kanan on the first team are three fellow Dolphins: freshman outside hitter Ava Pearce, senior middle blocker Alexa Hogan and junior middle blocker Jamie Robertson. Palisades junior libero Ella Madonna made the second team. Granada Hills, which lost to Palisades in the finals, got three players on the first team and one on the second team. Art Yang of Grant was voted Coach of the Year.
Palisades’ boys team made the Open semifinals and two Dolphins were selected to the All-City first team: junior outside hitter Gus Wibbelsman and junior middle blocker Matisse Lee-Maarek.
Two more Dolphins made the second team: senior outside hitter Scott Hunter and senior libero Bryan Ardon. Setter Franco Morice of City champion Chasworth is MVP.
