If I Picked the Academy Award Nominees for 2017
By ARNIE WISHNICK | Special to the Palisadian-Post
It was a good year for movies. It should be noted that I had no problem filling the film and four acting slots.
Best Picture
“Baby Driver”
“Coco”
“Lady Bird”
“Marshall”
“Maudie”
“The Post”
“The Shape of Water”
“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”
“Wind River”
“Wonder Woman”
The best storytelling is always a winner. There is outstanding storytelling from each of the above. My personal favorite Best Picture is “Maudie,” however “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” gets the Oscar.
Best Actress
Sally Hawkins “Maudie”
Sally Hawkins “The Shape of Water”
Frances McDormand “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”
Margot Robbie “I, Tonya”
Kate Winslet “Wonder Wheel”
I guess that I cannot get enough of the talented Sally Hawkins. But McDormand is always a force that cannot be beaten.
Best Actor
Daniel Day-Lewis “Phantom Thread”
Jake Gyllenhaal “Stronger”
Daniel Kaluuya “Get Out”
Gary Oldman “Darkest Hour”
Denzel Washington “Roman J. Israel, Esq.”
Gary Oldman is Winston Churchill. V for
victory, Mr. Oldman.
Best Supporting Actress
Allison Janney “I, Tonya”
Tatiana Maslany “Stronger”
Laurie Metcalf “Lady Bird”
Octavia Spencer “The Shape of Water”
Allison Williams “Get Out”
Tough category. I’m going to pick Metcalf over the other “Mom of the Year” Janney.
Best Supporting Actor
Armie Hammer “Call Me By Your Name”
Woody Harrelson “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”
Ethan Hawke “Maudie”
Sam Rockwell “Three Billboards Outside
Ebbing, Missouri”
Adam Sandler “The Meyerowitz Stories”
Rockwell finally gets his due.
