Justin Howard is off to an impressive start as a middle blocker for the Ohio State men’s volleyball team.
The 6-foot-6 redshirt sophomore had two kills and three block assists in the Buckeyes’ 25-16, 25-20, 25-20 season-opening victory over Central State on January 7. He added six kills and three blocks in another sweep in a rematch with the Marauders the next night.
Last Wednesday, Ohio State was back on court at Covelli Center to host St. Francis University and this time Howard had six kills, three digs and two block assists in a three-set win.
Howard hammered 32 kills in 19 matches played last season. He earned MIVA Academic All-Conference and Ohio State Scholar-Athlete honors in 2020 when he practiced with the team as a redshirt.
Howard had a stellar prep career at Palisades High, leading the Dolphins to four City finals appearances and three straight section titles from 2017-19 while captaining his Pac6 Volleyball Club to third place at the 2018 Junior Nationals. He led SCVA to its first USAV High Performance national crown in 2018, serving an ace on championship point.
