As the Fourth of July approaches and residents enter the Pacific Palisades home decorating contest, Holly Cleeland is ready to create one-of-a-kind yard designs, such as patriots, Uncle Sam, fireworks and cannons for residents to display.
Her work for other holidays, such as Christmas and Holloween, has been sold at Calvary Christian School and at Woman’s Club boutiques.
“One of the first art shows I entered was the Rotary Art Fair along Temescal Canyon Road 25 years ago,” said Cleeland, whose signboard artwork has proved popular. “I have made lots of money for groups over the years because they take 25 percent of your sales at fundraisers.”
The Burbank resident added, “Many homeowners have displayed my characters for different holidays, but don’t realize I also enjoy creating summer characters and I paint customed-designed murals.”
She originally attended L.A. Trade Tech to learn sign painting and outdoor billboard painting, but points out that today’s advertising agencies no longer paint billboards.
Right out of Trade Tech, Cleeland worked for Warner Bros. painting backdrops and billboards, and over the years producers have liked her artwork because it “pops” on camera.
