Riding high after reclaiming the City Section championship, the Palisades High boys golf team was hoping for a top three finish at last Thursday’s CIF/SCGA Southern California Regionals and a spot in the state finals yesterday at Poppy Hills.
Instead, it proved to be a frustrating day for the Golfin’ Dolphins at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena, where they shot a collective 417 to finish 10th, nine strokes behind a Granada Hills squad they beat by nine shots at City finals. Palm Desert took first place with a score of 367.
Grant Ebner fired an 8-over par 80, Jason Simon carded an 81 and two-time City individual champion Ray Yang shot an 82 for Palisades. Rounding out the Golfin Dolphins’ scorers were fellow seniors Kaelan Nettleship (85), Will Holbrow (89) and Ethan Rautbort (90).
Sean Maruyama of Campbell Hall shot -4 to earn medalist honors.
Yang made a 25-foot putt in a playoff to earn one of the last state individual berths after shooting an even-par 72 on the same course at last year’s regional tournament.
Palisades finished ninth last year with a score of 406, six ahead of 10th place Granada Hills. Westlake shot 366 to capture the team title.
Grant Ebner shot an 81, Ethan Rautbort and Will Holbrow shot 83s, Jason Simon shot an 87 and Jeff Han shot an 89 to round out Palisades’ scoring.
