Community members gathered Saturday evening, April 30, for Marquez Charter Elementary and Friends of Marquez’s Annual Fundraiser at the Buffalo Club in Santa Monica.
Friends of Marquez is a nonprofit organization run by parent volunteers who fundraise and work with the Marquez Governing Board and School leaders.
The event included a silent and live auction, dinner and dancing with DJ Andrew Hires—a Marquez parent.
This year’s catalog featured a stay at the Four Seasons in Maui, a weekend at the Terranea Resort and more. The most anticipated live auction items included a ride to school in a Station 23 fire engine and a reserved parking spot in the Marquez lot.
The event was organized by Friends of Marquez at Marquez Charter Elementary School and led by Shoshana Himmel, with co-chairs Sarah Goldsmith and Michelle Oles.
“As a new parent at Marquez, I am thrilled to be able to participate in this event in person after a two-year hiatus,” Himmel said. “I have been told time and time again that this annual event is greatly anticipated by parents and faculty at Marquez. Particularly as a kindergarten parent, putting this event together has been a great opportunity to meet so many wonderful Marquez families and learn more about our amazing school and community.”
The event raised $45,000, and Kevin Niles—on behalf of the American Legion Post 283—presented a $10,000 donation to the school.
Funds raised will go towards lowering class sizes, paying for additional teachers and any additional school needs.
