Former Palisadian Whoopi Goldberg will be featured in Apple Original Films and Skydance Animation’s upcoming adventure movie “Luck.”
The film stars Broadway star Eva Noblezada, who voices Sam Greenfield, “the unluckiest person in the world,” according to Apple TV+. She finds herself in the “never-before-seen” Land of Luck after aging out of foster care and unites with magical creatures to turn her luck around.
“Despite her bad luck and despite her clumsiness and everything that goes wrong, [Sam] doesn’t really let anything get in her way,” Noblezada said about her character. “It’s just really nice to see a determined young woman who is very self-aware but is still very like, ‘I just gotta keep going.’”
Among the magical creatures that Sam encounters is Bob (Simon Pegg)—a lucky black cat—who accompanies her on her journey, with a goal of preserving his own luck.
“Bob is all about number one,” Pegg said about Bob. “It’s all about him. It makes him sound very selfish, but he’s just a survivalist … He keeps everybody at paws’ length. But Sam, invariably, just starts to penetrate that facade that he has.”
The two later come across The Captain (Goldberg), who is head of security for the Land of Luck; Jeff the Unicorn, who is also an engineer; and The Dragon, CEO of Good Luck.
“Luck” is star-studded with the voices of Jane Fonda, Flula Borg, Colin O’Donoghue, John Ratzenberg and more.
“Luck” is directed by filmmaker Peggy Holmes, produced by John Lasseter, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and David Eisenmann, with an original screenplay by Kiel Murray, Jon Aibel and Glenn Berger, according to Indiewire.
A jack of all trades, Goldberg—Emmy, Oscar, Grammy and Tony award-winning comedian, actor and talk show host—lived in The Riviera before listing her home for $8.795 million in 2018.
“Luck” will debut on Apple TV+ on Friday, August 5. The film is rated G for general audiences, according to Apple TV+. It has a run time of one hour and 45 minutes.
