Former Palisadian and director Judd Apatow has enlisted his wife Leslie Mann and daughter Iris Apatow for his latest meta-comedy, “The Bubble.”
Written by Judd and Pam Brady, “The Bubble” follows a group of actors as they struggle to complete a film while trapped in a hotel—as part of a pandemic bubble—set in October 2020 in England. Netflix released the first trailer for the film on Friday, March 4.
“We are one of two movies in production right now. If we fail, the studio’s going to go down,” one actor says in the trailer.
In “The Bubble” trailer, actors reveal they are working on the latest installment of a dinosaur film franchise titled “Cliff Beasts 6: Battle for Everest: Memories of a Requiem.” They are met with COVID-19 health precautions, equipped with personal protective equipment—showing the ins and outs of filmmaking amid a pandemic.
“Please make sure you are wearing proper PPE. Physical touch is, of course, off the table,” one film assistant says in the trailer.
Alongside Mann and Iris, “The Bubble” features Karen Gillan, Pedro Pascal, Maria Bakalova, Fred Armisen, Keegan-Michael Key, David Duchovny, Guz Khan, Kate McKinnon and more.
Directed and produced by Judd, “The Bubble” marks his first film to be distributed by Netflix, according to Variety.
Judd has established himself as one of Hollywood’s most comic filmmakers with films like “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Step Brothers,” “Bridesmaids,” “Knocked Up” and “Superbad,” just to list a few. He previously worked with Mann and the couple’s two daughters, Iris and Maude, on “This Is 40.”
Rated R for for language, sexual content, drug use and some violence, with a runtime of 2 hours and 6 minutes, “The Bubble” will be released by Netflix on Friday, April 1.
