The Palisades Charter Schools Foundation and local educators celebrated the life of Lori Petrick on Sunday, May 18, at Taste of the Palisades by awarding five innovation grants.
The grants, given in memory of the beloved educator who passed away in 2003, are aimed at helping the seven schools of Pacific Palisades. Petrick’s daughter Kimi and son John were on hand for the celebration.
The five grants awarded for 2014 are:
A $4,000 grant to Palisades Elementary Principal Joan Ingle to address the implementation of the Department of Education’s common core standards. The grant will give local teachers more common core planning time for the 2014-15 school year, including professional development.
A $2,700 grant to Pali Elementary teachers Karen Nubell and Steve Engelmann to purchase a life-sized, walk-in whale to be used as a teaching tool at all of the community’s elementary schools. The grant was combined with the Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club.
A $1,000 grant to Paul Revere Middle School band director Yosuke Miyoshi for the continuation of the Palisades Complex Instrumental Showcase, which completed its first show on April 24.
A $1,000 grant to Nancy Fracchiolla at Paul Revere to continue doing a growing sketch comedy program called “Friday Night Live.”
A $1,000 grant to Carol Smith and Lillie Petrie to continue pushing for more resources for the Palisades High’s girls engineering program.
