Having played No. 1 and No. 2 singles in the City Section team finals, Palisades High seniors Jade Finestone and Anaya Ayanbadejo paired up for the Individual doubles tournament hoping to go out as winners. In last Wednesday’s finals the Dolphins’ top-seeded duo lost 3-6, 7-5, 4-6 to second-seeded Georgia Brown and Priscilla Grinner of Granada Hills in gusty conditions at Balboa Sports Center in Encino.
“We didn’t play our best but I’ve played in wind like this before,” Finestone said. “In the second set we got the deuce points we needed but we didn’t in the third set and that’s crucial in no-ad scoring. I was happy to play Individuals with Anaya.”
“The wind took turns beating both teams,” Ayanbadejo added. “There wasn’t really a strategic plan. They won all their points when they had the wind with them and we did better with the wind against us.”
In the third-place match, freshmen Nicole Nguyen and Anais Israels beat Granada Hills’ Amy Nghiem and Elen Zargaryan, 6-3, 6-3.
