Entering the last inning of Sunday’s PPBA Shetland Division championship game at the Field of Dreams, the Dodgers were down 14-13 to the Red Sox. After two quick outs, a comeback seemed unlikely—but Coach Tyler Atwood’s team batted around, scored eight runs and took a 21-14 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Gavin Morrow, William Fisher and James Kamdar all fielded ground balls and threw to first baseman Parker Atwood, who caught them all to seal the win.
The Dodgers finished the inaugural regular season as the No. 3 seed, then knocked off the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 seeds in the playoffs.
“I’m very proud of the boys and how each and every player improved throughout the season—we came together at the right time,” Atwood said. “The players got along great and wanted to play well for each other. The boys and coaches will never forget being champions of the first-ever PPBA Shetland division in a Dodger uniform!”
The roster of Dodgers 6-year-olds consisted of catcher Wyatt Zaun; pitchers Skyler Durbin, Gavin Morrow and Ryder Beck; shortstop James Kamdar; first baseman Parker Atwood; second baseman William Fisher; third basemen Jacob Simon and Noah Anderson; and outfielders Declan Donahue, Townes Horan, Jackson Blank and Jack Janick.
Coach Tyler Atwood was assisted by Jason Morrow, Kambiz Kamdar, Damian Horan and Steve Zaun.
