Palisadian developer Thomas Tellefsen took the next step in building his seaside project on Pacific Coast Highway that will take over Gladstones in a community outreach presentation on Tuesday, June 18.
The information-only setup took place in the Swarthmore Room at Caruso’s Palisades Village and gave Palisadians a chance to read more on the project while looking at a small-scale model.
Designed by esteemed architect Frank Gehry, food mogul Wolfgang Puck has also signed onto the team to make an old landmark a new architectural and culinary destination, which they have deemed “WP Beach Restaurant.”
Close to 60 Palisadians attended the formal information session intended to let people know what to expect in coming years.
“It was intended as an early stage run to kind of show what we had in mind as a vision, but before we did any further work on it or refinement, we had to determine any issues,” Tellefsen explained.
The developer said no major issues were raised by neighbors and is confident his project will be built with as little disturbance as possible.
Tellefsen said an official website for the project is in the works and coming soon for easy-to-access information on the details. He expects to present more information to the Pacific Palisades Community Council in the coming months, as well as hold more events for the community to inform themselves and ask questions.
“I’d like to be in construction by 2020 and be open in late 2021,” Tellefsen said. “That’s doable, but it’s all an unknown right now.”
Currently going through the county’s process, Tellefsen will face the California Coastal Commission process next and knows those reviews can take time.
He plans to “sit down with Wolfgang Puck and Frank Gehry and determine what adjustments we need to make” by August, as Puck is “already taking a more focused look at the kitchen layout.”
For now, Gladstones will continue to operate with an extended permit while Tellefsen, Puck and Gehry layout the future of PCH.
